The resources above are not banks - most of them represent Authorize.net, one of the world's largest credit card processing companies. In those cases, they will set you up with an account through a bank that works with Authorize.net.

However, the best place to start looking for a merchant account is at your local banks. You can have your account set up anywhere, but it may be easier and more cost effective to begin with your local sources. When you call, ask to be connected to "merchant services for new credit card accounts."

If local institutions do not work out, look elsewhere. As long as you have your own checking account, the merchant credit card account can be located in or out of your area.

If you do not want to set up a credit card account with a local bank at this point, you can consider alternative services.
