My serigraphs are chiefly inspiried by the works of Hiroshige, Japanese master in the art of woodblock. My work reflects an uncluttered style, and encompasses the ideal of eliminating the non-essential, which I believe creates an emotional bond with the viewer. My initial inspiration for becoming a working artist (my first works consisted primarily of acrylic landscapes) were Van Gogh and Monet who were, in fact, inspired by the very same Japanese woodblocks. Their ability to make everything even more beautiful than reality has always stayed with me in the creative process. This is the primary spark in creating every piece I create. The works on display in Gallery III are expressionistic in style. Each image is achieved by first painting on the screen, which later forms its own stencil, creating a very painterly piece. |
